Thanks for the update. I’ve got 17 GB of iWeb files that I dread ever having to convert to something else. I tried out EverWeb, and it appears to me that it doesn’t come close to being a replacement for me even if I were willing to invest the hours it would take to do the conversion. For example, the EverWeb photo gallery pages apparently allow only 50 photos. I’ve got over 300 photos on several of my many dozens of photo pages.

    • Not a problem. I was an early beta tester for “EverWeb” back when it was still labeled EasyWeb and I had found that it was just enough like iWeb to be really annoying. These days I flip back & forth between iWeb, Adobe Muse, & WordPress. There were just too many annoyances with EverWeb for me.

I think Everweb is not really bad, it is a good try to replace iWeb. But converting a website of a many hundreds of page would take me to much work, so for the moment I stick to iWeb. I wish Apple would make a new version of iWeb, that would be great news and I am sure it would be a bestseller in the App Store!

iWeb seems to be working on Yosemite. However there is a little bug: buttons “add entry” and “delete entry” are appearing on every page. Does anybody know how to get rid of this bug?

    • I haven’t used the blog or Podcast pages. I am only seeing the “add entry” and “delete entry” on these pages in iWeb. I just tried publishing a site to a local folder & this does not show up when published.

I have a few web sites with IWEB. I want to back up my websites but am having
trouble locating the back up file. I think it’s called Domain Sites2, something like that. I can’t find it since I updated to Yosemite. Can anyone help me. Ty

    • Good afternoon Cindy,

I have a folder full of iWeb “Domain files” sites on an external hard drive but, if you are looking for where iWeb stored the websites it is in a hidden library. You could try a search for “.sites2” and see if any results come up.

A video I did back when “Lion” came out (same steps for Yosemite): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D87w67lfOVU

To get to where iWeb stored the iWeb “.sites2” files first click on your desktop then use the “GO” menu hold the option key on the keyboard to reveal Library it will appear just below “Home”

Once in the library open the Application support folder, then the iWeb folder & that is where iWeb would store the Domain.sites2 file

    • Good morning Michael,

I have found that iWeb works much like it has with Lion, Mountain Lion, & Mavericks. Some iWeb users have had some issues with iWeb’s built in blog & Podcasts but, out side of those two issues I haven’t ran into any real major issues.

  4. I am having an issue when going to my site using safari on my computer. When I pull up the website the homepage has weird colored lines. All other pages show up fine. And when I pull it up on my iPad or iPhone the weird lines are not there just on my Mac. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi Jeff, a possibly stupid question… how does one access the helper app? I’ve downloaded it but when launching, it always then launches iWeb itself without giving access to the app alone first. Can it be used while iWeb is also running?

    • Good morning David,

iWeb cannot be running when using the helper app (is is merely an apple script) the helper app forces iWeb to allow you to choose an iWeb domain file then launches that domain in iWeb.

Sadly this isn’t working for me. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. All my websites were exported from iWeb to external folders on my hardrive. Your helper app isn’t allowing me to open any of these and I can’t seem to find a domain file that will open them either. Help! Frustrated and not sure how to update any of the sites I had in iWeb.

    • Good morning Samantha,

I am guessing that you had published your websites to folder on your Mac and unfortunately iWeb cannot open published websites. All hope may not be lost however, you may still have your original iWeb domain file. You could do a finder search for a “.sites2” file (this is the extension for an iWeb domain file) and see what you get for a result.

      search

Alternatively, the other place iWeb’s domain file can be found is in the Application support folder which is in the hidden library folder that can be found by, Clicking on the desktop, then use the GO menu then, hold the “option” key on the keyboard.

This video walks you through the steps:

Does iWeb running on yosemite support my pay pal links that i have on my website? Before I install yosemite, I need to know if my website will still process payments.

    Hi Jeff,
I’m afraid the app’s not working for me. I’ve found the domain file using your Library tip, and tried to open that file with the app and with iWeb closed. Nothing opens, although I can see iWeb opens in the dock.
I cannot open any of my websites in iWeb with Yosemite 10.10.1 – it’s a nightmare and I hate the thought of having to learn another program to re-write everything. Your ideas seem to be the best I can find, so I’m really hoping you can help me sort this.

Thank you so, so much – you’ve just saved me hours of work. Everything online seemed to suggest that what you just showed me was not possible on Yosemite. I had the iWeb app and domain file but the two weren’t speaking to each other. Now sorted thanks to your helper app. Many many thanks, Alice

iWeb does not work for me in Yosemite – button shows up on my dashboard and when I open it only the inspector opens. The application file is big enough that my images should all be in there, but none of it opens.
    Suggestions?

My work got us new computers with 1/3 of the storage. We were not able to just migrate the whole computer over to the new one. I spent hours trying to figure out how to get my iweb from my backup disk to my new computer using Yosemite. After locating the domain, I was able to use your helper app to move my info. over to the new computer. Thanks so much!!!

New problem: when I click on iweb to open it, it seems as if the iweb app loads, but then only the inspector shows up on the left hand side. In the past i used to be able to “jumpstart” iweb by going to an app like iphoto and clicking on “open photo in iweb” but this option seems to be gone as well. Any ideas how i can get the full iweb program functioning again???

iWeb is doing fine in El Capitan. The bug with the buttons “add entry” and “delete entry” has even gone! However, it is not possible to put a hyperlink to shapes or to textboxes converted into shapes. The easy workaround is to put an invisible shape (shape with no filling) on top of it and put the hyperlink to that invisible shape. Hyperlinks on text or pictures work without a problem.

I’d love to hear what you think – please leave a comment below!
